Day 01: Arrive Leh
On arrival at Leh you will be met by our representative and transferred to hotel. The day will be spent in complete rest as Leh stands at an elevation of 3500 meters above sea-level and an individual needs full rest to get acclimatized to this level. Later towards the evening, you will take a short walk into the market place. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 02: In Leh (Shey, Thiksey & Hemis)
After breakfast full day sightseeing to the massive Tibetan Buddhist Gompas of Shey, Thiksey and Hemis. A few kilometers up the Indus is Shey, the ancient capital, with its palaces, temples, and vibrantly colored murals, cleaned and restored in the mid 1980’s. Later we drive to visit the fortress styled monastery of Thikse. Afterwards, we drive to visit the Hemis monastery. This monastery is known to be the most famous and rich Buddhist temple in the entire region. The Murals and frescoes here date back to 17th century. After we explore the sacred monastery, we drive back to our hotel in Leh. In the evening, we will spend some time roaming around the markets. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 03: Leh To Pangong
We will drive to Pangong Lake in the morning for a full day tour. The road from Leh to Pangong Tso crosses the villages of Shey and Gya and later on to Kharu. From Kharu the roads leads up to the another mountain pass called Chang-La (5425 m). The climb to Chang-la is tough and upon reaching the top, you are greeted with a Sign that says "You have reached the Mighty ChangLa". The road Down from Chang-La is very good and passes though Tangste and other smaller villages. The final hurdle on this road is called "The Crazy Stream". Once you cross the Stream you are welcomed by the first View of Pangong Tso. The lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,250 m (13,900 ft). It is 134 km long and extends from India to China. Two thirds of the length of this lake lies in China. The lake is 5 km wide at its broadest point. In winter, the lake surface freezes completely despite being salt water. During summer, the Bar headed Goose and Brahmini Duck are commonly seen here. The region around the lake supports a number of species of wildlife including the Kiang and the Marmot. Dinner and overnight in Pangong.
Day 04: Pangong To Leh
After exploring this beutiful lake you will drive back to Leh, we will go for a short sightseeing trip to the massive Tibetan Buddhist Gompas of Shey, Thiksey. A few kilometers up the Indus is Shey, the ancient capital, with its palaces, temples, and vibrantly colored murals, cleaned and restored in the mid 1980’s. Later we drive to visit the fortress styled monastery of Thiksey. Evening will be free for any Individual activities you can go for a market walk and shop some ladakhi and kashmir crafts.
Day 05: Leh To Nubra (230 Km / 5-6 Hrs Drive)
We will drive to Nubra valley in the morning, driving over the highest motored pass in the world. The exciting journey through serpentine roads leads us to the Khardungla Pass at an awesome height of 5550 meters. We stop at the pass to admire and click some photographs of the fantastic view, before driving down into the Nubra valley. The valley is situated on an old caravan route at the confluence of the Shyok and the Nubra rivers. We drive to our fixed camp resort we will stay for a few nights and explore the gentle and green valley. On this day we will visit Samstanling monastery. Overnight in camp.
Day 06: Nubra To Leh (230 Km / 5-6 Hrs Drive)
We will begin a half day of explorations into this charming valley, by driving to Deskit – the tiny capital of Nubra. The capital is marked by a single file of shops that are put up on the main road. We will visit the Deskit Gompa, perched on a rocky spur above the village, with a commanding view of the entire valley. From Deskit we will drive back to Leh, driving on the same route and crossing the Khardungla pass yet again. We arrive at Leh in the evening and settle for the day at our hotel.
Day 07: Depart Leh
Very early in the morning we will have some breakfast at the hotel and then drive to the airport for flying back to Delhi. |
