Zunglam is one of the Hard Trekking routes in Ladakh which negotiated by very few hardcore trekkers. This trek can be done only in the month of August End till Sept end. This is due to the trekking route having 100 plus river crossings. Trekking route is great and beautiful gorges of Ladakh and Zangskar. The trekkers are adviced to have ample time of acclimitization in Leh's altitude of 3500 m before starting this trek. This trek can start from 2 different starting points, one from Chilling (easier earlier trekking days without passes and second one starting with Kongmaru La Pass 5250 m on the second day of trekking0 and Chogdo.
This trek is done be realh hardcore trekkers and planned well in time and bookings done well in advance. There are few trekking guides to negotiate this route and passes. Traversing through the great mountains of Markha Range to Zangskar Range into Zangskar Valley and the trek starts through Markha Valley and ends at Zangla in Zangskar Valley. A day of cultural tour within Zangskar from Padum - visiting Karsha Monastery, Stongday Monastery and Sani are highlights beside the Rangdum on the way to Kargil. Great landscape and great passes and great drive from Padum to Leh via Rangdum and Kargil, covers much part of Ladakh in terms of culture, spiritual and himalayan Ladakhi lifestyle.
(108 river crossings)
One could also do this trek staring from Shang Sumdo Valley starting at Chogdo (now vehicles can reach till Chogdo). It is little harder compare to starting from Chilling due to more passes at the beginning part of the trek route.
This trek can be done only between End of August till end of Sept every year due to as many as 100 plus river crossing between Kharnak Sumdo till Zangla Sumdo due to trek route being in the gorges. This is regarded as a Hard Trek for real adventure seekers and off the track trekking route. Very few hardcore trekkers prefer this trek.
