Markha Valley (9 days - Moderate Trek)
Day 1: Leh - Spituk (5 hrs): The trek begins from Spituk by crossing a bridge and walking west of the river Indus. Follow the trail for 3 hours until the Indus enters a narrow gorge at its confluence with the Zing Chan. From here, gradual ascent through the Zing Chan Valley to reach Zing Chan village. Stay overnight at the camp.
Day 2: Zing Chan- Ganda La Base camp (5 hrs): Ascend gradually all the way along the Rumbak Nala until you reach Rumbak. Reach a village of Yurutse. Stay overnight at camp.
Day 3: Ganda La Base Camp - Skyu (6 hrs): Gradual ascent followed by a steep climb gets us to the Granda La Pass (4971m). The trail descends steadily to Shingo and continue down into Skyu village. Stay overnight at the camp..
Day 4: Skyu - Markha (7 hrs): Pleasant walk along one of the loveliest sections of the Markha Valley. Stay over night at teh camp.
Day 5: Markha - Hankar - Thua Chungtse (5 and half hrs): Trek to the camp below the twin villages of Lower and Upper Hankar village which is distinctly cooler than at Markha Village.
Day 6: Thua Chungtse - Nyima Ling (3 and half hrs): The Nyimaling plain is a broad meadow, reaching upwards to the base of the ice-clad Kangyatse La(6553m). Stay overnight at the camp.
Day 7: At Nyimaling: Rest day.
Day 8: Nyimaling - Shang - Sumdo (7 hrs) Follow a well marked trail to the north of the Markha, climbing to the top of the Kongmaru La (5306m). The trail descends steeply to the Martselang valley passing through the famous Chu-Skarmo before reaching the campsite at Shang Sumdo. Overnight camping.
Day 9: Shang Sumdo - Martselang - Hemis (2 and half hrs) Easy descend along the Martselang river, reach the Martselang village where transport will be waiting to take us on a one and half hours drive to Leh. Overnight at Leh.
